Kansei 9 (1797) - Bunkyu 1 (1861)
Ukiyo-e artist. His painting names include Ichiyusai, Suihosha, and Asorou. He was born in Nihonbashi, Edo as a child of a dyeing shop, but in the final years of Bunka he became a disciple of Toyokuni I, and began drawing actors and illustrations. His popularity skyrocketed with his nishiki-e series "Tsuzo Suikoden Goketsu", which he began to draw from the end of the Bunsei era. Since then, he has earned a reputation as 'Kuniyoshi of warrior paintings'. He is said to have learned from Shibata Zeshin, and in the Tenpo period he began to work on Western-style landscape paintings.

"Genji Unukiyo Gaawase" is a series of paintings that combine the 54 chapters of The Tale of Genji with ancient Japanese tales and ukiyo.

The dragonfly (called Akizu in the old days) suddenly flew in a flock in early autumn, so I drew it in connection with the letter that suddenly arrived.

The Tale of Genji is a masterpiece of Japanese classical literature, and arguably the greatest novel. Written by Murasaki Reddy during his first decade of the 11th century, it relates to Genji's exploits of womanizing. Each of his 54 chapters in the novel is named and associated.
