It is the incense case of the first Miyagawa Kazan.

He opened the Makuzu kiln in Yokohama after the Meiji Restoration, and astounded the world with the transcendent technique of "high relief" that had never existed before. His work is said to have been highly evaluated overseas and had an impact on Emile Galle's workshop and Royal Copenhagen.
Makuzu ware was passed down to the 2nd and 3rd generations, but in 1945, the Yokohama bombing raid devastated the workshop, and at the same time, the life of the 3rd generation was taken, and the maguzu ware disappeared. For this reason, his works are few in number, and are called "phantom pottery."

Kogo is a small container with a lid that holds incense. A kind of tea ceremony utensils.
