ヴェネチアン・グラスとは
紺碧のアドリア海に面した北イタリアの水の都ヴェネチア。ヴェネチアン・グラスは、古代ローマ時代のローマン・グラスにその起源を発するともいわれ、当時すでにイタリア半島全域には多くのガラス工房が作られていました。ガラス生産の中心地は、1291年の「ガラス製造業者および工人・助手、家族等のすべてをムラーノ島に移住させ、島外に脱出する者には死罪を課す」というヴェネチア共和国の強力な保護政策により、ヴェネチアの本土であるリアルト島から隣のムラーノ島へと移ります。そして今日に至るまで、ムラーノ島はヴェネチアン・グラスの中心地であり、ムラーノ島の人々は、ヴェネチアン・グラスと運命を共にしてきました。

What is Venetian glass?
Venice is the water capital of northern Italy, facing the deep blue Adriatic Sea. Venetian glass is said to have its origins in Roman glass from the ancient Roman era, and many glass workshops were already being built throughout the Italian peninsula at that time. The center of glass production was created in 1291 by the Venetian Republic's strong protection policy that ``all glass manufacturers, craftsmen, assistants, and families were moved to Murano Island, and anyone who escaped from the island was sentenced to death.'' As a result, we will move from Rialto Island, the mainland of Venice, to the neighboring island of Murano. To this day, Murano is the center of Venetian glass, and the people of Murano have shared their fate with Venetian glass.
